New ventures
Have not updated here in a while; been pretty busy lately taking on a range of new ventures.
Firstly - I decided to take a break from my corporate career and pursue something I have always wanted to do … a Tech Startup.
The past 2 months have been hard work - but highly rewarding. I started Ophin, which is a Executive advisory service specialising in Digital strategy and products. Through Ophin I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing companies. (I’ll talk about these later)
I also founded PXi Ventures with a partner. PXi Ventures is a personal incubator for some of our own product ideas. We have been hacking away for weeks on various fun products. (Again more on this soon). One Friday project from PXi completely surpassed our wildest expectations. Vinepeek took about a day’s development and in a matter of 4 days had 1/2 million users! We got covered by Hacker News, TheVerge, Mashable, VentureBeat, BuzzFeed and CNET, to mention a few. We also had a cartoon strip and a drinking game dedicated to Vinepeek. I couldn’t be more chuffed or proud of PXi!
Finally - I took a Non-Executive Director role with Stoneburn. Very excited by this opportunity to work with the rest of the board to develop cloud technologies and help companies transform their businesses.
I’m gathering a few thoughts on the process of going from Corporate into Startup world and the lessons which can be learnt on both sides. I will definitely share these over the coming months.
Xen go WalkAbout
After an incredible 2 years creating digital products and teams, I have decided to take a Sabbatical to go tour, fish and feed Jackalopes.
#bbl #503. See you on the Interwebs.
You cant hide
Scary. Random person just sent me a text message asking for me to reply or email them. Apple Autocorrect completely munged their email address.
Typed it into Google.
Google Fixed it perfectly.
Facebook showed me picture and complete 8-year overview of person.
Dont bargain on being able to hide yourself in the future. If you are on the web, people will find you with virtually no hints.
Eric Schmidt was correct about this in the future.
MVP vs Analysis Paralysis
Finding the right point between “Just get it out” and “Plan carefully” is hard. Sometimes you release things too early, sometimes you should have released weeks ago.
Today was a tad early. Oops.
